Fitting Tailgate Exterior Trim Panel

I have obtained a secondhand exterior trim panel for the tailgate, as the original was missing. Any tips on fitting? I can see it has lips to engage the lower edge and sides of the tailgate, but will require considerable persuasion to fit. How does the top edge of the trim fit onto the rear panel of the tailgate?

it slides on till its up against the lip, then its held in place by clips that get hidden by the badges

and there's a U-clip on the inside of the tailgate, keeping the lock (and the panel) firmly in place.
