Black Trim On Exterior B Pillars

Recommended Posts

Andy F

Hi people

am currently stripping my car down for re=spray etc and need to get rid of the black stick on trims on the doors and B pillar.#

Wondered if anyone had any recommendations on getting them off?

Thanks for your help

Would a heat gun be a good plan? Then a very thorough rub down with a solvent to remove the glue residue.

They are vinyl, so there may even be specialist removal products. What are you planning to do following your respray? Retrim or paint black (there's someone on the formum who has done the latter)?

I'm interested to see how you get on as I could do with replacing these on my cherry red 1.6 - there bloomin perfect on the miami!

As said, a heat gun to warm them up a bit will help with removal (or even a decent hairdryer!). You'll need some kind of solvent to remove all traces of the glue afterwards though. If you've nothing suitable, nail polish remover will do ;)

Leave them body coloured and post up an image - I suspect they will look a bit odd, but could be wrong. I would be interested to see what this looked like.

IMO they will look rubbish in anything other than black. The're there to continue the darker 'band' of the windows along the side. Maybe wouldnt look as bad if your car was sorrento or possibly graphite

I agree with pete on this. Not so bad on base model windows, but on the gti its a no for me. I left mine body colour for some time after i resprayed my car. Until i cracked. :) Now they are black gloss, because its easy to polish.

I just painted mine with a satin black aerosol after I'd resprayed the car.

I seem to remember a post saying the proper stick on items were either unavailable, or hard to source now, but if you really want to go for originality you could get some off another model (like a 206) and cut them down to size.

You can still get the adhesive strips from peugeot (I can get part numbers if people want) but they were about 12quid each if I remember correctly. Might be cheaper to buy them for a more popular model and trim them down?

I have done it before with black electrical tape. It looked just as good as standard!! Just tuck it under the window seal

Was wondering what this would looks like, but it looks odd here IMO.

Maybe could work with a darker colour, as previously suggested.

I'm sure one of the cars on the projects forum has had new vinyl stuck on, fresh from pug? Maybe worth having a root around servicebox? Or asking your friendly local peugeot dealer!
