How Do I Widen The Rear Wheelarches?

Recommended Posts

mmt

The rearwheels on my 205 with 309 beam hits the inner(not the plastic part) wheelarches when I turn.

I´ve cut the edge of the plastic part of the wheelarches. The wheels hit i further up inside the arches. I want as little modification as possible.

How do I solve this problem?

use a more sensible ride height or a 205 beam.

:-) Thanks!

Forgot to say that the solution does not have to be an easy one:-)

Prefer to keep the height as it is.

I "tweaked" the arches on mine before spraying it to give extra clearance. On the basis the plastic mouldings cover the metal edge, you can't see any difference.

I've recently had to cut the rear arches on my rallye (rallye rear arches are considerably smaller than GTI), so I could fit some 15" 6.75J wheels.

I did plan on using a grinder, but ended up using these antique 'tin snips', which were more than up for the job.

The only pics I have, are the ones posted in the original thread, I'm afraid.

I ended up cutting approx 2", then each 'tab' was about 1", giving about 3" extra clearance overall.

I´ve tried rolling it out with a rod between the tyre abd the steelarc. But it seems that it needs a lot more force! The rod just "dives" into the tyre!

How do you roll the arch out?

try dropping a tyre profile if you like it low, on the plus side it will be even lowe.
