D Turbo - Electrical Problem....

Recommended Posts

CaptainP

My dad's trusty 205 D Turbo is no longer trusty  He broke down again tonight and this time it wouldn't come back alive. He's been having a strange electrical fault where he turns the key to engage the glow plugs and all power go's out. Tonight this happened again and all the power drained from the battery. I tried jump starting him from the CTI but it wasn't having any of it. I'm thinking it's either a relay fault or something has shorted out? Any suggestions folks??

Thanks

Steve

sounds like a very dead battery due to an alternator failure, or a loose connection somewhere.

does it turn over when you try and jump it?

It did turn over, but failed to start. What's odd is that it's been doing this for over a week, sometimes all the electrics would be dead but if you came back to the car 20 mins later all was okay. It's a pain, but in a way probably best it's failed now so we can diagnose it and properly fix it. Could a faulty ignition switch/barrell cause this?

All cured, it was a roped battery connection! Even though it was done up tightly it still wasn't up to the job - chopped it off and put a new one on. Job's a good un ;)
