They still retain the balljoint type setup, so as long as kept clean and lubed they shouldn't cause any issues in terms of premature wear.

are these relatively easy to fit?

Yes, very easy I would say :D

Just need some axle stands / pit and a couple spanners.

Mine even be able to get away without the the axle stands, but it'd make it easier to take the large rod off.

lol.

does anyone have a pic of said rods on the car itself? i noticed today while the car was on the ramps (getting exhaust repaired) that there were rods near the gear stick under the car. - think that makes sence :D

Are the rods supposed to be tight on the ball joints? ie no movement by hand?

cheers

Mine were very tight indeed.

Remember, even the tiniest bit of movement in the joint will be magnified in the lever, giving you a sloppy change

Just a slight change of topic, There will be a new kit available for the bushes in the 'L' part of the linkage, With this fitted again you gain a more positive and shorter change as there will be zero movement on the 'L' only rotation

I've got these on my GTi with one of the his original modified gearsticks (design since copied by other firms), a group N lower mount & the gear change is fantastic.

No noticable slack & a nice quick shift action plus it make a nice click when changing almost reminiscent of having a metal stick surround (ala Ferrari).

Highly recommended.

Graham.

I simply adjusted mine to the same length as the original ones. Not sure if that was entirely the correct thing to do, but it worked for me

Was the approach i was going to take and im sure it will be fine, but as like all of us, if i can better it somehow i will

anyone else know? what difference does it make if it was longer or shorter?

any help appreciated

If you adjust them you change the position of the gearstick, you'll end up with it hitting the seats etc.

IIRC the haynes manual has a method for adjusting them but if you can engage all gears without hitting the seats and with the gearstick in a sane position when its in neutral you can't go wrong really.
