I'd rather have a lot of head clearance so getting as low as possible is certainly the way forward. I dont think bars gets me low enough and the extra inch will help. I'll have plenty of height control with the seat side mounts should a second driver be required...

no progress at the moment. Gearbox casing is waiting at a specialist to be done. Theres a long waiting list apparently.

I've been buying a couple of bits. I now have three master cylinders for the pedal box (well only two have so far turned up)

I've been thinking about lowering the spec of the build to get this on the road so I plan to use a test engine, a near standard lump to get the car running and set up. A fancy engine can come after I have had some fun.

I've made a bid for a 1,8 engine so will see if I get it....it will need a custom inlet for throttlebodies, and hopefully the dry sump will fit.

I've asked Colin to get the gearbox done so I can get the car back for the winter.

Only major things Colin has to do is convert the touring car driveshafts to fit 205 hubs, build the gearbox with the right ratios, fit a seat to the floor and position the gearlever in the right place.

Sadly work will be very slow as I cannot focus much time to this but I want it working for next summer.

Just for you james i've added some old pictures. If you want any specifically then let me know

I now have a 1.8 XU7JP4 engine sitting at colins

Of course it cannot remain standard so I will be upping the performance a bit

New parts I have to bolt on:

A gti6 head and exhaust manifold - thanks to Alastairh - I think with the limitations of the 1.8 head around the valves this will be the cheapest option to start, also I dont have to purchase an aftermarket exhaust manifold which I think would have limited benefit with the smaller capacity block

I will be purchasing a few other parts to get some power

Some 4903109 catcams are about the limit I can go with standard pistons. I wonder if Colin or sandy can say whether there is enough metal that the valve cutouts can be enlarged on standard pistons...might be a budget option to get better camshafts in place though probably will just leave them a weak point in the build.

Cameron is bringing round some blanking plates tomorrow too :P

Rest of the spec will be as planned.

Dry Sump

Throttlebodies - will see if my touring car inlet manifold fits this head though I suspect not

Lightweight pulleys

Small alternator

8 injectors

Touring car flywheel and twin plate clutch

I'll still be trying to reduce the parasitic losses as much as possible. Now if I can get 180 bhp out of this engine I think I should be happy.

Colin has hopefully prompted the gearbox guy to finish the casing, though we have a spare we can whack a diff in to get all the driveshafts fitted. Colin will convert all the touring car driveshafts I have so I have a set spare.

Don't forget the GTI6 OE cams and pulleys are mine dude. Either whip 'em out at yours or leave them in to go down to Colins and I can get them from there.

:(

Looking good matey, and about time you stopped mincing. :D
