A Bit Of A Ponder, Possible Hatching Of A Plan...

what with my car being relatively low, too low infact to use ramps without snagging the front bumper, and also too low to fit any decent jack under apart from a trolley jack (of which mine was stolen  ) i have recently been wondering whether its possible to make the front bumper 'quick release' for ease of removal for scooting up the ramps, and also to make access a little easier to other components.

i'm sure some of you guys with race 205's must have done this, tho ive never seen it on the forum. or maybe it hasnt been done before?? either way just wondering what peoples ideas were and how would be the easiest/safest way to do it??

Depends how elegant you want to be, can flip the bolt through the front and put wing nuts on and then the side just slide off, or you could put in Dzas clips and clip them off.

all me and a friend to when servicing at rallies or at home is to drive the car onto 2 blocks of 4x2, cheap (free) and easy

what we've seen the more affluent crews (i.e the Mk1/2 Escort boys!) using are custom alloy ramps with a much shallower angle and a well at the top so that the car can be held without risking cracking discs by using the handbrake.

Yes my track car has this, my mate did it.

4 off alloy tophats machined to accept a stainless M8 caphead then set into the bumper. The bumper mounts are then modified with a nut welded to them for the bolts to screw into.

Front bumper takes less than 2min (undo 4 bolts) to get off, you should be able to see in pic attached.

Shouldn't be that hard, if you can make the entire front end of a mini removable then I'm sure a 205 bumper shouldn't be too tricky. Couple of bonnet pins through the front, on custom made brackets if need be and then catches of some description in the side, there are loads of options available. You'll just have to hope it don't get nicked while you're in the shop.

after a quick nosey at my bumper i think the following might work, firstly some type of plug to quickly disconnect driving lights (any suggestions?) wing nuts on the sides wher the bumper is attached to the wing (pretty easy to get my hand in there and i dont have gti arch trim so no need to worry about unclipping that) not sure about the front 2 bolts yet as i want something as discreet as possible, and it seems that wing nuts on the back would be veryy fiddly as i cant quite get my hand behind there as it is!

They are fitted via a yellow multiplug anyway.

if your trying to look stealthy why not use bonnet catch on it so you can just pull a leaver and itl pop of kinda thing?

not as easy as bonnet pins but if you want to be clever give it a go
