just wondering what you guys/gals think i should do as im struggling a bit

ive fitted the xu10j2te engine into my 306 but im struggling with the front mount intercooler

i cant run my pipes underneath as it would be too low

i cant run any pipes to the left as my rad is in the way and my p/s pump + alternator sits too close to rad like 1"

i know i can get a twin pass cooler and run the pipes both from the right but i was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as its getting rather annoying now as this is whats holding my car up from being finished <_<

so questions or suggestions fire away - please

Mike

inferno

I used a bmw 318 rad and run the standard doner car intercooler pipes initially and a cossie 2wd intercooler in the bumper. You could consider a charge cooler from a T16 or a similar style as made by xs power.

ooohh u have pas, i removed this from my zx completely.

Id suggest a shorter rad and run the pipes and intercooler in the grill if you can?

This part of the conversion always proves to be a PITA from my experience, even though initially it looks simple! good luck!

What about something from a HDI 306 the cooler sits beside the rad on the passenger side...

Run a more vertical intercooler so you can get the pipes round the side and back over the top. I used a Fiat Punto GT intercooler. A Renault 5 turbo IC also has both pipes at the top.

try again - cooler

what pics do you need?

Im not familiar with the front end of a 306 :)

Intercooler looks ok I guess, end tank design looks a bit lousy though. You maybe able to find a BMW, Merc, Rover, Fiat ' etc cooler with the same pipe configuration just of a better design, as most OE 'coolers are.

I'd say that a tall narrow i/c would be better for your car and place it on the left in the bay With you having pas your stuck for room as we are on 205s. Renault 5 or something?? My brother and i had a look at his 306 s16 just out of curiosity a while back and room would have been tight for a front mount. What did Rob turbo use on his xn?

Check out the Supra 'cooler on this page, scores highly in the flow test.

Looks like the Daddy version of the MR2 one Im using :)

if you swap the rad to a 205 rad there is stacks of room up front in the 306

I'd be surprised if a leaf blower shifts enough air to be even vaguely meaningful in a test. But it strikes up a meaningful point, if your charge air cooler has a large pressure drop over it, it is as good as useless.

That eBay one has pressure drop written all over it.

What flow and what pressure do you think you will run at? I might have some data that could help you. What about a chin mounted intercooler a la current Focus?

the focus intercooler only has small outlet pipes, my piping is 63mm

Has anyone got some dimensions of a 205 rad?

thanks

Looks like there is enough space to get some pipes out by where your hand is, and use a MR2/supra cooler.

Unless you do go from underneath but use metal pipes for that and flatten them off!

Pretty much mate yes, but will better design than that ebay one!

Its pretty much the same as the MR2 'cooler, so is nice and thin.

^ Thats what im using and may be even better for you as both pipes swing round,

so wouldn't need altering to fit as that Supra 'cooler might?

Only downside is, it has 2" outlets so you need a reducer to get back upto 2.5"

Good for 250bhp so I've been informed though!

I'd try allard, for intercoolers as they do a really good line for cars such as the Punto turbo which have very limited space for IC pipework. They have coolers which resemble the Frontera type long but not very tall, and they work very well indeed.
