Wind Screen Sun Strip? Where To Get One?

Recommended Posts

Headling

hi, i have a stripped out turbo 205 for track days, i have taken out the head lining and sun visors and its going for the MOT soon, i know it could be a stupid question but would you have to have a sun visor sticker fitted to the screen if you dont have sun visors in the car?

next question, where can i get a cool looking one? not some chavvy thing! does any body do the peugeot talbot motor sport visor like they used to have on the T16 group B car?

any other suggestions would be good! my car is black BTW.

In Germany a sunstrip is mandatory when the visors have been removed due to rollcage fitment.

In my 1984 racer it is even mentioned in the registration documents.

I talked to a company doing all sorts of stickers and lettering for vehicles up to the size of busses.

I´ll probably have this PTS sunstrip reproduced. How many would we need ?

How about something like this?

pts-sunvisor.gif

I'll have a crack at mocking one up over the next couple of days, if you like. If it turns out OK, I'll see how cheap I can do them for and how many are needed.

Never really looked into sunvisors before, so if any of you know of a minimum/maximum depth, or any guidlines I need to adhere to, please let me know.

I've been meaning to pm you back about sunstrips.

That is basically what I've been after for my car but I always worry people not in the know will see the word 'sport' and judge!

I usually get 250mm strip but the 200mm one I got recently was deep enough IMO.

Would you do it so he PTS bit was a seperate piece that you could stick on after?

I did this recently for someone. I'm just looking for a couple more buyers to make this cost effective. I can't believe the similarity in what I've guessed as a design. :D

SunStrip.jpg

My current customer is in Australia, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind a few similar ones over here.

If you want anything changed slightly just let me know.

It's 150mm deep and is £35 incl P&P, you just apply it.

I 'think' for the MOT your sunstrip cant come down further than 100mm down the windscreen. Causes problems if you sit low in the car but its no real problem if it has to be removed.

That's interesting, as the basic format for the shape of my sunstrip I copied from a blank master on a UK car graphics web site. It was 1350 wide (much bigger than we need) by 150mm deep.

This 'think' might need checking. I could be wrong...I often am. :D

I seem to remember 100mm for a few years ago, but I'm no MOT tester. Sure someone will be along soon to confirm

As far as im aware the general rule of thumb with sunstrips and mot's is that if the windscreen wiper touches it on its sweep its too big.

Small wipers are allowed though, hence why my racecarsdirect.com sunstrip passes the mot.. :D

Yeah, that'd be no problem. PM me and I'll get one made up for you.

Finally got round to producing some of these today.

I've cut two versions, one straight, the other curved.

If anyone's interested, I could do these for £20 each (inc. postage).

Variations to the design are possible, just PM me...

Just a quick PhotoShop, but you get the idea.

I haven't had chance to try the curved for size, but it should be pretty close. The only prblem with cutting it exact is that you have to lay it perfectly when applying it to the windscreen.

With the rectangle one, you can afford to apply it at a slight skew and trim the edges.
