What Is The Lairiest Cam Running Std Plenum

Recommended Posts

SPGTi

As the title, I am thinking of getting the engine in my road rally car freshened up so thought may as well stick a lumpier stick in there.

I have to run the std plenum but hope to use Megasquirt for fuelling and ignition so what cam, what compression ratio, is it better to deck the block to achieve the desired compression ratio ?

It needs to pass the MOT as well.

cheers

Steve

I have run both of these cams , i ran the PT27 for a short time without the Emerald and it was OK

The cat cam that is in now , is far better in the mid range though.

the figures below are the inlet and exhaust duration at 1mm lift and also at .1mm lift overlap and max lift

CAT 4900340 255 255 287 287 39 12.25

Kent PT27 290 290 304 296 78 12.49

Thanks Craig.

I have been looking at the Catcams 4900367, which seems similar to the 340 that you mention, but in reality I have no idea what all the numbers really mean.

Did any other mods need doing to fit the 340 cam ? What CR are you running ?

cheers

Steve

The 367 is a modified version of the 340. It will give the same performance but has revised opening/closing ramps.

I had a look at the specs and as Matt says , there's not much in them.

I don't know my exact CR , Dave Baker (Puma) sorted that for me , but he did say that it had a 2mm skim .

I would think so, you can take the meat out of the head on the 8V. Unlike the 16V, of course.
