1.9 8v Sump Bolts And Allen Bolts

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

I have just taken the sump off and there is a mix of bolts and allen bolts. Is this normal or have they been replaced at some point?

It's a French car so anything is possible but the allen bolts are going to get all sorts of crap in the recesses when the engine is back in the car arn't they?

Thanks

Jonny

no that's quite normal! I bet you didn't remember where they went did you....

there are varying lengths of bolt dependent on where into the block they bolt in.

yes the heads do fill up with crud eventually, but they're easy to clean out.

There's 2 (or 3) screws that are shorter than the rest and they fit into the crank bearing cap (fixings nearest to the flywheel).

These are shorter because the tapped holes don't go all the way through like the rest of them.

I'm not sure what the idea of the Allen head screws are for, but Haynes says they fit near the Oil filter.

I've No idea of the reason why Peugeot fit these here?

It might be something to do with the production line procedure ?
