Fuel Consumption

my 205 xs has strange fuel ecomony, i have checked briefly for leaks or tears but found none.

The car does around 70 miles to £10 , on a solid drive or over a day.

However throughout the week me drive to and from work (about 3 miles twice a day) i manage around 23 miles to £10.

Its almost as though the car uses fuel whilst standing still, occasionly i do get a smell of fuel inside the car after its been stood but nothing to drastic, and the rear of the car is stripped out and there is no obvious leaks there.

Any ideas on this folks.

admittidly however choke is used in the morning but surely this will use over double the fuel i usally use.

Seems like your car is running super-rich when cold (since its been running badly too). Can you manage with no choke, or as little as possible? Perhaps someone who understands the intricacies of carbs better than me could come up with an explanation/solution...

yea, to be honest ive just had the carb setup at a garage they recon they have it all spot on now like. You think thats what it is then, just running to rice when cold.

the choke on the solex closes the air off and ups the idle abit by opening the throttle it doesnt really put that much more fuel in, sounds like you have a leak as your only doing 11 miles to a gallon so unless your engine is highly tuned and your redlining everywhere that doesnt add up,, look at where your feul fliter sits on the fuel line back from that is where the rubber hose connects to the plastic one that runs under the car alot of 205 leak there
