Main Oil-pump Sprocket

Recommended Posts

Guest Scartie

Can someone tell me how to put the main oil pump sprocket on the crankshaft

When i put the sprocket on the crankshaft its lose (and thats not good i think :) ), and in the hanyes manual its says i have to put in a woodruff key in the crankshaft before putting on the sprocket but i think thats not correct.

Can someone tell me if this is correct, and else how its supposed to be?

Some pics to clear it up.

Thanks in advance

On some engines there is a little cutout in the sprocket to make room for a locking key so that the sprocket doesn't just spin loosely on the end of the crank. Some engine don't have this however and just rely on the crank bolt being done up properly to hold it in place. It's a very stupid design.

It's on the oil pump sprocket itself (or not if you engine is the type without one). I've drawn it on the one on the right:

woodruff keys don't drive, they just align.

What holds the pulley on the crank once the bolt and spacer has been undone?

I ask as I've got the bolt undone but pulley won't come off. Is it just a tight fit? Or am I missing something?

Hijacked slightly but you've got he photos and you've obviously managed to get the pulley off!

Thanks

Rich

I didn't get it of myself, but like mike says, it can be a tight fit if its a little rusted.

Try to use a pulley puller, but leave the bolt in so u don't damage the threads inside the crank (also WD40 is youre friend  ).

Its an MI16 engine, so that oil pump drive cog is held on by luck! lol

its all held in place by the big (22mm ?) bolt on the end of the crank, once everything is in place.... and yes, i'd do it up tight and glue it in lol.

you REALLY dont want it coming undone lol..
