1993 1.9 8v Gti Oil Pressure Problem

My oil pressure gauge has always read low in the 6-7 years I've owned it. But recently when at operating temps and at idle the oil pressure gauge red light and the red STOP light occasionally flicker on.

 

The oil is at the max line and the engine runs as (un)happily as it normally does.

 

Now, as I figure it the oil gauge and the STOP light use two different oil senders to trigger them. I can't believe both are faulty. So what should I be looking for to increase my oil pressure? I've read on here about changing the oil pump spring, but I'm looking for a few more ideas just in case.

 

For completion:

Standard 1.9 GTi 8v engine in my 1993 model. Oil is fairly new as it had a leak before, but is now fixed.
