Will A 206 Gearbox Fit Into A Gti6 Engined 205?

There is no penalty for using a sequential gearbox in the WRC the choice is totally free. The 4 speed box was tested and used by Peugeot in the 307 WRC but was very unsuccessful both when it was working and when it was not which was a lot of the time. Although this was not very successful the number of gears is still influenced today by the packaging advantages that can be achieved with 5 speed over a 6 speed gearbox.

dont forget with the sequential dog box you will be able to left foot brake as no clucth is needed, makes a massive masive differnce to stage times with propper left foot braking

Hi James, the RERT rallyteam used this box in their 1600 206. The early SADEV boxes suffered from reliability problems, and were redesigned(think it was issues with the oil pick up location). It would be wise checking which version you are being offered.

I have looked into the SADEV box for my mi16 205, and was advised that the 1600 kit car box would not be reliable for the higher torque and BHP of my engine. They can however supply a higher spec box, although from memory this was a couple of grand more. This is the box that I eventually plan to run.

HTH.

Ignoring the entire technical jumble above, it's fairly obvious that a proper sequential box with flat shift will be the quickest way to change gear and will help improve times. Have you got any further with purchasing it yet James?

With regards the cages Tom we have been developing our 205 item for the last 10 years, and I really doubt that you will find another design or built that comes close in terms of weight, stiffness and safety.

Hi Paul - after much deliberation, I've decided to pass on this box as quite a few of the servicable parts are no longer manufactured as it's a ph1 version and they now use a ph2 version (parts aren't compatible)

Shame really as it seemed like a good buy, guess I'm just going to go down the new route as the only other used xtrac 406 box is 8.5k which is too close to the cost of a new box for my liking.

Tom - ref the cage. Having spent over 6 years messing around with both mine and many friends rally cars on all different levels I think that the x-sport cage/shell prep is right up there with the best of them. They have years of experience through what was autocross - a hugely successful fabrication company up in Berkshire specialising in spaceframes etc. It's taken me the best part of the last 12months deciding which company to use for my new build and I'm very happy to be going with Paul and Greg!

The only thing I questioned with the cage was calling it WRC spec. When a WRC bodyshell is build around the outside of the cage from individual panels such that the cage is actually the majority of the chassis and the body panels are formed around the outside to form what looks like the car it originated from. This allows the cage to be designed for ultimate stiffness with no compromise for how it fits inside the shell or access for fitting it etc. The design is optimised using simulations and physical testing on a servo test rig. Resulting in a shell with a cost price of around £80,000.

Otherwise I am sure what you intend to get is a very high specification for a 205 build from a road car, just not WRC spec.
