The gf's 205 is having some work done shortly and the garage menetioned getting the head skimmed - I was always under the impression that this was a big no no for GTi heads?

Whats the informed opinion here please?

Skim away, You can get away with removing a fair amount, But you can also get repair head gasket's too if the head's that bad

whats the standard size head gaskets you should go for?!

ive got a piper 270 cam fitted to a head im about to fit onto another engine, on teh piper site it says to take off so much of the head via skim, this is fine as i now know how to calculate how much should be taken off taking into account previous skims BUT once this is done i am assuming that figure they give is using an original head gasket but arent there different thicknesses?!

thanx
