Water Leak

Recommended Posts

john-melbourne

Hi Guys,

I have been losing coolant recently, but couldnt notice any leaks, i had not driven the car very far as i was awaiting my insurance to come through, so i was letting the car idle and checking for leaksand couldnt see any. Today my insurance finally came through so i took the car for a 50 mile trip and lost 1 litre of coolent then i noticed the leak, it seems to be coming the drivers side around a foot in from the wheel, sorry for the lack of technical information i am no good with stuff like this, From my rubbish description can anyone have a guess at what this could be?

John

If it is at the back of the engine there are two pipes going in to the block i would start there.If it is at the front i would have a good look at the rad and the pipes on it. pics would help.

I would have a good look at the two pipes going into the block. They are on a small manifold which is held on by 2, 6mm bolts. Has the car had a head gaskit

change. Have a look at the back left head bolt has it got a big spacer as well as the washer on it.

There is a metal pipe in the inner wing that rusts away so it might be that has spring .

You can see it in the picture below;

of the two pipes at the back of the engine one has a habit of rubbing on the steering column joint if its not positioned correctly, and as Graham mentioned the metal pipe in the wheelarch is a common culprit for pinholes.

Just from the positioning of the leak i would say its one of the two pipes that eveyone has said to check, where does the rubber on that metal pipe lead to as that looks like it is heading in the right direction.

It runs from the back ok the block(it is one of the two i was on about) and the other end is to the bottom of the rad.
