Weight Of Xu Engines?

Recommended Posts

Leon C

What are the dry weights of the XU series engines available for a conversion into a 205?

E.g

A typical, standard 1.9 GTi engine weight?

Mi16 (1.9 alloy)?

Mi16 (2.0 cast iron)?

GTi-6? Are these cast or alloy??

Apologies if this has been posted before but I couldn't find anything. :)

Official weight for the Alloy Mi16 inc Alternator and flywheel, is 133kg.

Iron block Mi16 and GTi6 (Iron block btw), are about 18kg heavier, plus the stupidly large right hand engine mount the GTi6 has, which adds about a further 4kg.

Cheers Sandy. :)

This is what i've found so far then:

1.9 8v = 90 kg (could only find 1 post on this! sounds a bit on the light side but still... )

1.9 alloy Mi16 = 133 kg

2.0 iron Mi16 = 151 kg

GTi-6 = 155 kg

S16 = 160 kg

Any figure on the 1.8 XU?

Very similar to the 1.9/1.6 xu's, iirc sandy said the difference was under 5kg. Thats the alloy block 1.8's i'm referring to.

1.8 xu 16v should be same as alloy block mi give or take a few kg

The 8v seems a bit on the light side seen as a mi head is about 10kg heavier and the fly wheel a few kg then heavier liners, oil spray bars i would say about it's about 18kg lighter than a mi engine.

The 2.0 mi and s16 should be the same weight.

The 1.8 16v is definitely marginally heavier than the 1.9 8v and a fair bit lighter than an mi16, sandy has weighed one.

The 1.8 16v is closer to the weight of the 1.9 8v than the Mi16, it's quite different to the Mi16, the internals are a good bit lighter.

The 1.9 8v is 119kg with alternator and flywheel. That's an official PSA figure.
