how long and how hard is the question?

i have ramps,air tools and a transmission stands,autodata says 5hrs to fit what you guys think?

Depends really how experienced you are with this sort of thing......

I'd recommend searching the forum for topics on driveshaft removal, particularly the intermediate bearing on the drivers side before starting.

Make sure you have a good quality 8mm allen key (pref a good quality socket type) , a deep 11mm socket along with a decent ratchet - these will make life easier.

5 hours would seem a fair estimate, although it can be done in half this!, and I've seen it take a lot more, too

With your tools you can do it in half this, but depends how confident you are.

 

Putting boxes on can be a ball ache. All down to clutch alignment and making it slide on straight away for a quick job!

I managed to take a gearbox off, strip the diff out, swap the crown wheel from the new box to my quaiffe, fit the box back together & refit it in under three hours.

 

Its amasing how easy it is with the subframe dropped though.

im a 3rd years vw apprentice so confidence a touch on the low side.

with regards to tools not a problem also have clutch aliagnment tool.

if you manage with vw's, a pug clutch change is like a walk in the park. :wacko:;)

with another guy we assembled the whole engine, timed up the cam, mounted in the car with driveshaft and gearbox of course in 5 hours. with 2 cigaret brake

I done a complete gearbox and clutch change in 3hrs without air tools and 2 axle stands.

So you should walk it in 4 hrs even if you've never done 1 before

4hrs but driuve shafs are having new gaitors so still off
