Rear Suspension Rebuild - Info?

Recommended Posts

englishmaninwales

Planning to dis-assemble and rebuild the 205 gti rear suspension this winter. Haynes manual 'chickens out' saying it's too hard for lesser mortals to do. Is this the case or is there a good source of information? Sorry if this has been done to death!

TIP. Leave the beam on the car and use a long piece of steel (and a lump hammer) from the opposite side to knock the arms off the torsion bars. Once the beam is off it's very tricky unless you have a big workshop with a couple of vices that is!

It's not difficult. there are some bronze bushes around now on ebay, maybe worth seeing what they're like. The guy who makes them is going to put a groove in them, would work well with grease nipples!
