205 1.9 Gti Gearbox/linkage Problem

in my 205 1.9 , the gear lever when put in 2nd 4th or reverse hits the handbrake if its on or the seat, like it goes much further back than it actually should, what will be the most likely cause of this?.

dont drive with the handbrake on

 

you need to adjust the rod from the relay to the gearbox (the one a quickshift is normally fitted to)

when you say adjust how do i go about doing this, and do i make the rod smaller ?

check first that the linkage is bolted tightly to the subframe, common fault for it to be loose and the gear change bvecomes as sloppy as a bowl of runny custard.

brilliant, thanks for the help guys , ill get onto it this weekend , and check for any rust whilst im down there.
