Belt Change?

Recommended Posts

matt1900

picking up a standard 1.9 on the weekend. it's been standing for over 6 years only being started a few times a year, last time was at xmas.

would it be foolish to see how well it runs without changing the cambelt & tensioner first as a precaution? has had belt changes before but not in last 6+ years.

any thoughts, cheers

If you can do it yourself I would change them.

At the very least I'd pop the cambelt cover off and have a look at the belt to see if it's perished, and I'd strongly recommend putting a new belt on it really.

That said, the original cambelt on my Passat is on 106k miles now! Really must get around to changing that... B)

It will probably need valve stem oil seals too.
