Lead From The Alt To The Starter To The Batt?

Recommended Posts

Anton green

If the lead which runs from the alt to the starter to the batt positive has gone high resistance, is it quite correct to assume I will have no end of trouble starting the car and getting my car battery to charge from the alt?

Cheers

That all depends on what resistance you're looking at?

Remember to disconnect it from the alternator or you may very well be measuring the windings within it which will give false readings.

You can always diagnose the starter motor by shorting the main battery feed to the smaller solenoid spade connector with suitable wire (ensure car is out of gear and ignition off). It will spark a bit so be prepared for that and the starter motor will obviously turn over if it's working. This will tell you that your feed from the ignition switch to the starter is iffy.
