pugbliss 0 Posted May 14, 2007 hi all noticed this on the way home from work this morning performance onthe motorway is down, as im having to push furthher down on the pedle to get any decent go out of it (1.6gti) and when i got home i listerned to the exhaust and it sounded odd not like it usually does. usually there is a steady rumble and decent back presure but now the back pressure doesnt seem so strong and its phut phutting more. i must point out that it is despareate need of a full serevice and ignotion overhaull (totally skint till next month) but can this be just the reason why???? or is there something else up with it. oh i must also say the exhust is only aprox 5 months old and is of pattern quality from central tyres. any help apriciated
welshpug 1,678 Posted May 14, 2007 blown/collapsed baffles in the exhaust, give the boxes a tap and if they rattle then they are shot.
pugbliss 0 Posted May 15, 2007 Manifold is good no cracks at all. im wondering if i need a new coil or plugs as it seems to have got a bit worse, my new probs are it sort or stutters above 60 mph. itll have full power then it is as iff it sort of cuts the spark for a beat then comes back on. bit hard to explain properly what shall i start with..... pugs and leads or jump in the deep end and do coil and ignotion module first. Rob_the_Sparky 10 Posted May 16, 2007 Do check the exhaust, the first section should have a split but this can rust and bend partially blocking it. You just need to seperate the first section from the manifold and take a peek inside, you will soon see if it is blocked or not. Rob
pugbliss 0 Posted May 17, 2007 can this centre split rust so much in 5 months that it splits?????
Rob_the_Sparky 10 Posted May 17, 2007 Ah - not likely (must read posts more carefully!) but it may well lack the split altogether (some pattern parts just us a big single tune instead of a pair of D shaped ones welded back to back). This won't help the power but doubt it is your problem. Rob

Rob They seem to almost melt, very quickly, if you're ignition timings not right........so still worth a check
