A Strange Squealing Noise...

Recommended Posts

westy

Hi,

my 1.9 205 has recently developed a nasty, LOUD squealing noise. Its coming from from alty/PAS pump/crank area.

Could it be a bearing on the PAS pump?

It only happens when the car's revved, but it can't be heard when its idling.

Ideas?

Does it happen all the time or only sometimes?

Does it happen when you turn the steering wheel?

Does the steering become heavier when you get the noise? It could be a sticky pump?

I had the same and thought christ its the tensioner or something mechanical, but no it was just the belt. Wrong one fitted at some time and at the end of its adjustment, bought one 10mm shorter and problem solved!
