Gear Linkages - Is There...

Recommended Posts

blue1.9

Had trouble over the weekend trying to disconnect the gear rods. One came off the ball joint fairly easily, but the others took rather more brute force than I wanted to use...

Is there a special tool, or method for removing these things that I should know for next time?

Cheers

Alex

I usually use a open ended spanner and lever them off.

That's what I ended up doing

Just wondered if there is an easier way!

Funny isn't it. They seem to fall of if you make some hard gearchanges, but try getting them off when you want them off!!

This has been confuggling me too.

U mean just get the end of the spanner under the rod end and lever it against the linkage?

Am tto scared am gonna brake it.

Need to give it a go and get the quickshift on, swappin the exhaust 2moro too.

So is it just a case of making sure they come off straight?

GE told me to do the same - get an old spanner (13-15mm) and just lever the rods apart - there is a little brute force involved but they should come apart. There is more fun to be had with getting the replacement shortest rod from GE on!!

Took me about an hour to do the complete swap.
