Bodge...

;)

No more of a bodge than using thicker pads would be - they don't affect the brakes in any way, shape or form - if anything they'll help reduce the heat transfer to the caliper if you use stainless.

The minimum thickness is only to stop the pistons extending too far when the pads have worn.

Another issue with the 307 discs is that they squeel like pigs. Which isn't the case on the Xant discs.

why do the discs squeal?

Isn't squeal more about vibration between contact points of pad and caliper?

hence backing pads with mintex pads, and liberal use of copper grease for contact points!

It's probably due to the extra flex caused by the piston extension, in which case the couple of stainless backing pads would cure that too.

So if I were to bodge, sorry Hilgie and use shims, do these have to be made or are they over the counter?

You may be able to get them over the counter - but it's not difficult to chop up some stainless sheet for shims.
