1.9 Injectors Onto 1.6 Road Rally Car ?

Recommended Posts

Guest oilburner

I am busy at the moment rebuilding my 1600 gti motor for Road Rallies this year. Talking to a fellow

205GTI owner & Rally competitor yesterday,he told me that his next modification was to fit 1900

injectors, ecu & air flow meter on his 1600. Apparently in rallying circles it seems to be a new way of

gaining some extra grunt. I intend to cut no corners with my rebuild & this sounded a good idea.

I do happen to have these parts to hand & am tempted to try it. Has anybody on the forum tried this

& if so - is there some gain. Bearing in mind i will be putting the rally car on the "rollers" to get everything

spot on & try to squeeze out all the power, torque etc i can. Experience or useful comments appreciated

from anyone ? :D

i put 1900 injectors in my road rally car when it was a 1600 and it didn't make any difference to the power figures when on the rollers

I can only see it being of use if your somehow squeezing more air into the car and the extra fuel can be burnt correctly. Otherwise your just gonna overfuel the car.

Well after reading your various experiences, ideas & conclusions i don,t know what to make of the

idea at all. It seems some people have good results while others have bad experience. I guess the

only thing to do is try it & see. I do like the way the 1600 revs & it suits my agressive driving style

On the other hand i really would like a bit more ooomph! as we all do. Will continue with preping the

engine & report how things are going. I,m sure you all agree Motorsport these days is expensive &

yet you have to keep competitive somehow or there isn,t much point, although it,s a good laugh in

the 205 & enjoyable it takes something to keep up with some of the machinery people have out on

these "events" . I do like the odd trophy now & again. Especially if my little 1.6 has whipped the ass

off some MK2 Escort with all the bells & whistles fitted. :(

If it was so simple to add power why do you think Peugeot didn't fit the correct injectors in the first place?

Do they have a vested interest in producing crap engines? Do they actually want to waste power compared to the competition? Maybe their tuning budget is so small they can't get simple things like this right. Maybe none of the above?

Surely the production roadcar is a compromise of power, reliability and economy? If you wish to enhance one at the expense of another (or others) It can be a simple case of parts-bin swapping.Perhaps peugeot changed the ratios of the gearbox when they introduced the 1.9 to show lower 0-60 times, following your reasoning?

A while ago I did read from your website, which was very imformative, and I appreciate the point that the gti engine and ancillaries are difficult to improve on with such an approach due to near optimum design for the purpose "out of the crate"

Maybe I've read the post wrong, and there is no hint of sarcasm intended, but frankly I found it irritating.

The thing I like about this forum is being able to pose questions to those with much more knowledge and technical ability than myself without being belittled.

Of course- throwing a few grand to a "speciallist" engine builder should be the only option to gain power!
