Vehicle Speed Sensor- Xm Turbo

Recommended Posts

Mikey S

hi all

im starting my turbo conversion on my 205 and my brothers in the next few weeks and i have managed to sort most things out bar the vehicle speed sensor.

when i removed my engine from the donor it had a 2 piece speedo cable with the speed sensor in the middle of the 2 cables. i have kept this but how do i go about wiring it to the ecu? i know that 1 pin from the vss goes to the ecu (pin 9) but what about the other?

any info would be great! thanks in advance

mike :)

Ideally mate, you want one of these :DVC01019.jpg

Then it's just a simple plug and play, although Ant made his own out of two speedo drives

and I can have a look at the wiring diagrams/post them up if you want.

my loom doesnt have a plug for the vss on it. it was just a standard push type as per 205 gti with a cable about 18 inchs long then the vss and the other cable running into the car. the connector on the vss had two pins and they ran off into the car somewhere.

if you could post some wiring diagrams that would be great! :)

They you go mate, that's all the XM Turbo wiring diagrams I have. Might also be worth droppin Ant a PM, incase He doesn't see this Topic, as I remember Him saying he had a two pin connector, but managed to fuse two speedo drives together.

I also have the MP3.2 ECU pinouts somewhere to, if they are not listed above, will dig it out later.

Sam.

My car had a 2 pin gearbox sensor, but no cable.. If yours has a cable and wires, just use that one.. Ie speedo cable into your 205 clock, and then wire the wires into the loom.. No idea though where the wires go.. I just followed the wires from the loom back to the VSS control box kept the loom in tact.. Sorry i cant be any more use

Regards

Ant

It is a VSS but no idea if its an early or a later one.

Same as the one I got from Miles for use in my car (when I finally get round to fitting it).

Wouldn't it be good, if we could collate a list of all the cars

these appeared on for this thread :D

I guess you can still buy them new, but I remeber Hilgie saying they were in the

region of £100 :)

Hilgie

I paid 150 guilders for it back then. From Citroen they are cheaper, around 40-50 euros = ~£25-30

There are two types...two pin and three pin. The three pin ones are commonly found on more modern cars like 306GTi6s. The two pin ones are quite often on Citroens but I don't know which ones. Also they can be obtained from various gearboxes. The V6 had a pin one in a ML5T box, but it had no connector for the speedocable, so I just swapped a two pin one a ME box at the scrappy in which had two connections.

My phase one '98 1.8 16v Xantia just has an electronic speed sensor, no cable or ability to fit one.
