i guess that would depend on the condition, and how much life is left in them

Snap them up.

Then you can ditch the rear compensators and save yourself £40 every year when one of them knackers up (I'm not bitter :) ) for the MOT.

Higgy.

GTi-6 setups usually go for £100-150 in my experience, so the price isn't too bad if the disks and pads are newish, but a bit expensive if they need replacing.

Don't need to, no - I still run a standard MC with my GTi-6 brakes and I personally like the longer pedal travel, but alot of people fit a 406 non-ABS MC to keep the pedal travel similar to standard.

Assuming it's a 1.9 you've got, and a 406 non-ABS MC to go on...

  1. Undo brakelines to front calipers
  2. Remove existing disks and calipers
  3. Fit GTi-6 disks, caliper and pads
  4. Reconnect brake lines, checking for sufficient slack on full-lock either way
  5. Undo brake pipes from MC (use a brake spanner!)
  6. Remove wiring from top of MC reservoir
  7. Undo the two nuts holding the MC to the servo
  8. Remove the exisitng MC and fit 406 MC
  9. Tighten nuts securing MC to servo
  10. Splice wiring for 205 low fluid sensor onto the 406 sensor wiring
  11. Reconnect and tighten brake lines to new MC
  12. Fill with fresh brake fluid
  13. Bleed front and rear calipers
  14. Start engine and check that the pedal isn't excessively spongy, and that it doesn't creep under pressure (which suggests a leak)
  15. Go for a test drive and enjoy your new found stopping power!

i've had a set (off a Xsara VTS) for several years now on my 205 Mi16 (Mi32 now )

and have got a set (off a 306 GTI6) for my 205 GTI recently. also looking forward

to fitting them as my brakes are somehow weak now (compared to the VTS ones

on the Mi32 and Brembo's on my T16 :)).

i've also taken the servo and m/c and going to swap them too (just like i did on the Mi32).
