8 Valve Camshaft Upgrade On Injection

Recommended Posts

hey peeps, couldnt find what I wanted through the mine of information that is this site :D

what is the wildest/best cam that can be fitter to a standard 8v engine?

I've seen a cam with the following spec but I guess this might be a bit too wild for the AFM to cope?

Lobe separation 107.0 cam deg

valve overlap 95.4 crank deg

Intake Exhuast

Centerline 107.0 ATDC 107.0 BTDC

Open 53.7 BTDC 74.9 BBDC

Close 88.4 ABDC 41.7 ATDC

Duration 322.1 crank deg 296.6 crank deg

Lash 0.250 mm 0.250 mm

Peak valve lift 14.1150 mm 12.9370 mm

lift @ TDC 5.042 mm 3.626 mm

bit confused but that seems like a hell of a lot of lift!

oh, and I'm after torque improvement not power!

No chance I'd say - that looks almost like a race cam, and certainly way too hot for an AFM, and I'd doubt it'll run on standard springs either with that amount of inlet lift.

thought not :D

so what should I be looking for?

cant find any Catcam prices :D

found Newman Cams and their 280 cam seems good for what I'm looking for?

268 cam -

Duration....Valve Lift....... Timing..................Full Lift IN. ATDC

........................................Open Close

268 268....11.93 11.88......24-64 64-24...........110

280 cam -

280 280....11.93 11.88.....30-70 70-30............ 110

what do you lot think then?

I tried an AS288 and it ran, but it would've required some tweaking to sort the AFM. I decided best to put a standard one in on the basis could put any 1.9 AFM on if on a rally and am forced to swap AFMs.

That was roughly 288 duration with 11.6mm lift.

Also have a vernier pulley and some shims (obviously you may need others!) with no undue wear on the cam.

For sale if you are interested, especially if you can sort postage :D

right, I'm learning all the time on here :D

who made your cam Boobies? and what "tweaking" was done? I guess I would have a chance of making it work on a recently reman AFM?

I hasten to add that this is just gathering information at the moment as I'm struggling to pay the rent thins month :( but if you still have it in a few months I would love to try it, can always sell it on if it doesnt go to my liking :D (but then I have no idea how much you want for a lumpy stick alex!)

Cam is Autosprint regrind - so Peugeot made the cam :D In good nick though and came with my head. Made 150bhpish IIRC on mfields head.

Tweaking was just adjusting the fuelling but I was doing it by ear rather than using any kind of probulation device.

After £80 + p+p for the cam, vernier, shims, buckets.

I don't know what it would take to get it spot on, but it ticked over perfectly smoothly and rev'd ok (once I had plugged in all 3 injectors...)
