Magnex Manifold

Had a look at the exhaust yesterday cause it souded a bit 'Farty' !!!

It seems like the bit where the flexi pipe join the actual manifold is leaking quite a bit. It seems pointless trying to put any exhaust paste in there, apart from the fact it would be quite difficult to get it in there, once it hardened and the flexi pipe moves i assume it would fall out anyway.

Was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem and if there is any possible fix without having to take it off again and getting an exhaust specialist to look at it.

By the way its a second hand system so won't be covered by Magnex warranty.

Thanks in advance

Dave

Do you mean where the two springs attach either side?

if you do, they just get some stiffer springs, this is what i done when i brought mine. Then later on the weld went where it goes down to 1 -_-

That wasn't good news then

That's where I mean though.

Where did you get the stiffer springs from, or is it just a case of Halfrauds or somewhere like that ?

isnt it a simple cone/knuckle type joint like the original manifold to downpipe ones?

they're notorious for leaking there unfortunately.

you could try stiffer springs, but my experience has been that they don't do much, if anything, for long. try it though - it might work to satisfaction on yours.

best solution i've found is to cut it off and weld a suitable flexi joint on instead. i've got a Bosal part number somewhere for a stainless flexi that suits - let me know if you're interested and i'll dig it out

have also had a problem with the block inbetween the four pipes (in the collector) falling out - sounds like the same problem others have mentioned - ?

luckily, one of my mates is a professional welder and has tig gear; he managed to cut it open and reweld everything flawlessly - you almost couldn't tell that it has been sliced in half to look at it!

Does anyone know where I can get the stronger springs please ??

Thanks Hengti will let you know if I need the part number. B)

May try the exhaust specialist near me and see what he can do with it, a friend of mine does have all the welding gear at his workshop but is unfortunately is in the middle of moving.

Thanks for the replies

I'd like to know more about this as I've got a Magnex that someone has tried to split the system on this joint so its loose & I have no springs for it. ;)

I was thinking of using some nuts & bolts like used on some of the Mi manifold joints.

Graham,

Those bolts are very similar to the ones used on the standard 8v manifold.

Saying that the Olive on the MI maniflow/pug racing etc is from a Ford.

for info, the Bosal part number that i've used is '265707'; it's just a stainless flexi and cost me about £35 3 years ago.

before that i tried a different flexi and then a spring loaded joint similar to the one in your photo. i had problems with both and ended up with the flexi i've got now.

i'm using a Piper stainless system which has also been modified - i'm fairly sure that the i/d and o/d of that felxi are the same as the Magnex manifold outlet, but it'd be best to check with a supplier first.
