Recommended Posts

their is a black tank under the inlet manifold on the gti6 engine. it plugs in to the inlet manifold?

what does it do??

would removing it and plugging the hole be an unwise move??

at a guess it'll be a resonator box, any wires?

if no wires just remove it and revel in the noise!

so the black box just basically quietens the induction roar? would it not upset the ecu removing it?

im sure petert will have an idea ?

There have been loads of posts about this on the gti6 forum. It's basically a resonator box yes. However i don't think there is any benefit in removing it either, from those that have bothered to remove it anyway.

Gaz,

It's worth getting onto the 306 GTi site as there's lot's of posts about issues like the black box, Seems keeping it is better

I used to have a Mk2 MR2 that had about 4 resonator boxes for the induction.

I removed them and fitted a K&N and it destroyed the low down torque - the boxes apparently provided balanced air pressure and helped to get the air in better somehow.

When I put it back to std it was much better :)

I've ditched the box a while back. Hasnt made any significant change.

I wont be putting it back though, i prefer the extra clearance for cooling.

Its a helmholz resonater, google for it if you want the specifics ;-)

I'm dumping the one on my 6 inlet too, for the same reasons as Jochem, and it's lighter :)

I fitted these inlet manifold while doing my MI-conversion. All i had to do was cuttin´a piece out on the left side to get clearance to the engine mountings.

If you remove this black box you´ll lose torque in the under gear ratios. As others already told you this box is an resonance-box.
