Any 16v Turbo's On The Forum?

Recommended Posts

damien

im kind of toying with the idea of a 205 16v turbo just wanted to know if anyone has done it (gti6/s16/mi), i dont want to go the 8v route as i dont like the look of the engine.

want to know what type of problems you mite come across and if theres the space under the bonnet to keep the battery, PAS and air con.

ive got a spare gti6 lump and was thinking about getting one of them dp-engineering turbo kits, would most likey be run off a 1.9 box as ive got a recon one and the car would be a fast road/odd track day car NOT stripped out full track car. i will be wanting to keep the body/wheels as standard, and going with some gti6 brakes (ive got a spare set) and a aftermarket supension setup.

any views/ideas/comments?

at the moment its just a idea, nothing is down on paper

:(

With a DP kit I think your battery will be relocated as that's were the Turbo will be sitting.

Air con could be comprmised also as you'll want to fit an Intercooler up front.PAS should be ok though:)

Sam is building a S16 Turbo. Miamistu has one in the making ( almost finished so I hear )

as it's very cluttery with all those hoses and pipes.

And why start off with 150ish BHP and with tits out boost 190BHP, when you can start off with well over 200BHP on low boost.

Im currently starting a turbo build for a new 205, want it to be a real tool. At 28PSI im hoping for 400BHP.

2bar of boost! I don't doubt you'll have put together a real strong engine to cope with it.

You'd obviously be using a big blower for it but wouldn't you get a lot of lag and then major wheel spin from there on in? How do you plan to get the power usable throughout the revs? You going throttle boddies too?

Be interested to see how people would tackle a twin-sequential system for the best of all boosted worlds :(

Are there any 205's like that?Certainly would be a masterpiece in spatial awareness:D

As you say Sam, getting both blowers in would represent a challenge, but the other thing would be diverting exhaust gas to the appropriate turbo.

Must admit I've never really looked into how it's done but it seems that a lot of plumbing's involved....but surely it'd be possible to have an ECU control that function?!

i think im going to give it ago, not in the 205 but in my silver 306, the engine bay is bigger so i should be able to keep the battery/air con and power steering without any problems

it depends on what exhaust manifold you use, the dp engineering manifold needs you to move the battery in whatever car you use. this is because there is no room behind the engine for the turbo especially with the 16v head, so it has to move it to the side "a la t16 style".

I'm currently doing the same to my 306 cab dropping an s16 head onto my 8v turbo bottom end and using a gt28r turbo, even if you dont want to use the 8v top end the bottomn end is a very good starting place for a 16v turbo.

im going to try a smaller battery and put it as close to the bulk head as i can and move the ecu to the passinger footwell that should give me the space needed for the turbo im just a bit worryed that the heat from a turbo mite mess up the battery

PAS should be ok to keep, although you may struggle with keeping the air con. Battery really needs to go in the boot. 1.9 box would be ok ratio wise in my opinion, although LSD is a must. Suspension setup is crucial to get right to allow you to get rounds corners quickly.

DP kits are good value, manifolds are very good, although you still need management. My 405 manifold, VAT turbo and management are up for sale at the moment if you're interested, although I can't remember if it would fit straight on to your 6 head. If you have any questions about the whole 16v turbo thing give us a shout.

T16 manifold doesn't go straight on a GTI-6 head unfortunately.
