T16 Manifold-another Way?

Recommended Posts

peter

I was looking at an old post of a 2.0 8v turbo and among the pictures of the 300 ish brake engine there is a picture of what looks like a home made t16 manifold, but what caught my ey is that it actualy looks like a gti6 manifold shortend and then a where th downpipe would go it goes to the turbo.

I looks like it would flow relativly well and be quite cheap to make.

There is a picture in this section of the thread

its custom made "Nej, den er costummade. vist nok lavet af skovbamsen."

looks a bit big and clumpy compared to this one which also has equal length runners -

Im not convinced it looks alot like a gti6 manifold or a 309 gti16 manifold that has been modified.

Ill see if i can find a pic of a gti6 manifold so you can compare

and if it isnt maybe you could modify a gti6 manifold!

here

Theres one here.

Can anyone else see the simelaritly?

trust me, the welding would be rather tidier than that on an O.E item!

but the only welding on that manifold is where it could have been modified

I see what your saying there... but the only reaseon they MAY have used a gti6 manifold would be for prefab'd bends... the flange is not the same, and theres a verylarge amount of weld thats not from factory. imo youd be better off starting from scratch and bending new tube to make a manifold like that.

Very true but the tubes are already pre bent for you and iirc the stud pattern on a gti6 is not that much different

I would say it's a 306 git manifold mated with a 1.9 Mi16 head-flange.

Then welded piping onto the outlet of git manifold and to the turbo.

I'd agree - Some modification of the GTi-6 pipes where the $hitty welding is....
