1.9 Gti Running Lumpy And Rich

Recommended Posts

matt gti78

Guys, I recently sold my old 205 gti 1.9 and bought a track prepared 205 gti 1.9 with a 1.6 gearbox fitted.

The car starts fine and goes fine, but when cold the engine won't idle and keeps cutting out but once it warms to normal operating tempature its hunting for revs when idl'ing and it runs rich all the time hot or cold.

I know its abit brief, bt does anyone have any suggestions as to what this could be please.

Standard problems, probably one or all of the following:

Ignition timing,

Idle mixture (AFM adjustment),

Dirty AFM (mine dropped from 3.5% to 0% CO when cleaned!),

ECU temp sensor (generally only a small effect but worth while),

Blocked breather from oil filler to TB,

Has it got an adjustable fule pressure regulator on it - often used to richen the mixture in the hunt for power,

Dirty TB? No personal experience of this but have heard of it making a difference (although not sure why it should) and it isn't hard to do
