156bhp At 6200rpm

Recommended Posts

Guest ashnicholls

My car made 156BHP at 6200RPM And 138 LBS

On the rolling road, which I was told is about 5-10 BHP over.

But even still really pleased, out of my 1.6 block.

And that was running on 95RON, with standard ignition, and on 32mm chokes, for low end pull. Could have achieved more with 34mm chokes.

I'm sorry but 87 ft lbs per litre is fantasy land territory for a 2v engine. In fact it's at the top end of what might be believable for a full race 4v nevermind a road spec 2v. With a Piper 285, BV head and DCOE's I've seen mid 140's bhp from a rally spec 1.6. I assume your cam is standard as you don't mention a different one so your true bhp is probably in the 130s.

These rollers must be more like 20 bhp out than 5-10 so another set to add to the list.

Also 32mm chokes are only good for up to about 140 bhp which ties in with the clear error on the torque and bhp figures.

Does not matter anyway, the car is going to be torched.

No one will insure me, with my dad as policy holder.

And its £2000+ under my name, which I can no way afford.

Seeing as we pay £100 for the 1.1.

Surely you checked insurance before doing the car? :D

No,

My dad avoided it,

I left him to do it, as he pays it.

Looking back now, it should have been done long ago.

And I would have the 1.1 in it still.

how old are you and how much ncb have you got. Even if your fairly young you should be able to get it down to half that in your own name, or in your dads name iwht you as a named driver.

shop around, ask for a limited mileage policy and ride a bike more often.

try your mum on the policy rather than your dad?

didnt think insurance would be a problem in the sticks?

Just got insured with performance direct.

Im 21 no NCB.

Just got fully comp with 1.6 with Webers and Full Magnex. With me as the policy holder.

For £800.

Which I think is very good.

Won't insure me with dad as named driver because I'm under 25?????

Flux were crap and didnt deserve the business, were no help at all, did not want to insure me, and just fobbed me off.

Performance direct, rang me back saying they hoped they could do better, and then did a better deal still.

So, forget the insurance, get back to talking about the figures.

Cheers Ash

Yes, not bothered about how much it makes really.

How accurate are those rollers though??????????

Im happy if its making 130BHP.

I could do more, but abit pointless for road use.

And it feels more than fast enough for me.

At the end of the day its how it feels and drives thats important, not what power figure it gets on the rollers which are only of use for boasting about in the pub.

If it feels fun and quick, then thats perfect <_<

I agree with you d-9, its just ther if its a group session the figures recorded would be able to be analysed to see wether they do record accurately and how close people are to other cars rather than to other rolling roads.

seeing as there'll be about 20 cars there on the day.

If it was free I'd do it out of curiosity, but I dont see why I should pay someone £35 to make up the power figure for my car when I can make it up myself for free (106 made 183bhp @ DIRR)

A damn sight more accurate than the ones you just used <_<

Doug, your just a student cheapskate :D

I personally use rolling roads for a REAL reason... mapping and before/after comparisons of modifications etc. though welshpug is right and in a group day like on the 2nd December it does show what kind of figures the dyno is putting out and everyone can compare their results from that day, though I expect a few people may be surprised as things like standard 206 GTi 180's do put out around 180 so... :D

exactly, thats exactly how I feel, its like having 16v, would be alot more powerful, but not really any better for everyday road driving.

Shouldnt really say that as it will cause an arguement about 8v vs 16v <_<

A better example would be say fitting the 285 cam, which would produce better results, but from reving the car harder, which is not very practical as a road car if people get what I mean.

Well thats exactly the point, I think I have nice clean power curves.

And the carbs ignition and cam timing are set up for the optimum and thats the most important thing.

Sounds to me like you wanted a good driveable engine and have got it!

Hi-Tech rollers do over-read and are known for it, but I would be pretty happy with what you got and assume that realistic figures are lower but an improvement on standard.

Mick there is very very good with carbs.

As you say, no matter what the figures are the torque curve looks fairly good, no nasty dips and a huge breadth of consistant torque. Looks like a nice engine for the road.

Yes, would highly recomend Mick.

Was running terrible,

Loads of flats spots, stalling the lot.

He got it fully tuned in two runs.

Just changed some jets after first run.

Then altered timing after next run.

And then it was done.

Running sweet as a nut.
