Timing The Pistons To Valve

hi, have searched and searched for the answer to this but can't seem to find it. when the crank pully is lock where it should be. where should the pistons be. mine are all 1/2 way down. does this sound right as i'm not 100% but the again i can't see why not?

any help is great thanks

oh and its 1.6 8valve

yep thats correct when the crank is lined up all the pistons should be halfway down the liners and all level.

Hi Chris

Yes this is correct. My 1.9 8v is the same found this out when I did the headgasket about 2 years ago, dont think theres any difference between the 1.6 and 1.9 unless anybody knows otherwise.

There's no difference, it's so you can turn the camshaft and the pistons don't hit the valves. If any of the pistons were at the top of the bore there would be contact.

cheers guys. just most other cars i've done. 2 pistons were at tdc.
