Group A Exhaust System For 205 Gti

Recommended Posts

Tony_205

Im interested in getting a nice system for my GTi.

Ive had a look at a Group N exhaust system but i want to find out a bit more about the Group A.

So far, the only maker of GrpA for the 205 ive found is OMP, they are 180 on ebay, but it doesnt show an actual picture for the model.

Could anyone shed any light on this system please? With regards to places to buy and reviews on it.

Regards,

Craig

DES Developments do a full stainless version, with an extra silencer if required as they are LOUD!

Grp N and A only really relate to the diameters as per old rally regs.

They are shut this week as having a holiday + big unit clearout so guess best is to email.

They do 4 offerings in stainless - grp N, grp A, grp A with extra silencer, and a turbo option.

e-mailed! Thanks guys.

Think ill go for the Group A without silencer, all depends on price tho really.

What size are the GpA back boxes? Didnt really want more than 2.5"??

I have the Group "A" version with silencer, sa has Sean, very pleased. Prices are as follows last time I enquired.

GpN 2" with single 8"x4" straight through back box = £200+VAT

GpA 2 1/2" with single 8"x4" straight through back box = £220+VAT

GpA 2 1/2" with 8"x4" straight through back box and 4" round centre box = £240+VAT

I have the OMP GrP A exhaust on my car. It's pretty much a straight through pipe, with one small silencer. It's loud (mines a trackday car so that's good) with a really good note.

It's a large bore and i think it's designed to fit onto the corresponding GrP A downpipe, so you will have to bare that in mind. I had to do a bit of modifing for it to fit onto my Longman Mi16 headers.

The tail pipe is around 2.5''.

Is it LOUD??? Or can you still talk to the person sitting next to you?

Pardon?

Seriously though without the extra silencer its damn loud. With so many circuits being forced to lower db limits its a safe bet and doesn't appear to hamper power.

Definately acceptable with the second silencer.

Yes you can easily have a conversation with the person next to you, just have to raise your voice a little, not alot though, though mine is has a cage, so has no interior, will try to finda piccie.

i'd defo recommend this system. It's certainly acceptable for all track days, i expect it to be under 98decibels.

Here's another pic of the Grp A twin box system. Des offer free fitting too for PSOOC members i think..

neat centre box, not sure about those sharpish bends before the backbox though, I'll have to get some pics of my Longlife system to compare as I specified it to be pretty much the same but with a bigger centre box and a slash cut tail.

Thanks for the info. I'm in need of a new tailpiece (my Gutmann one has some serious rust issues). But I want to get my GTI6 engine into the 205 next summer approx. So I want to buy an exhaust which can cope with the 2.0 16v also, but I don't want it to be that loud. I have a full interiour which is not going out of the car. So I'm asking around a little to see what options I have. A Dutch exhaust specialist could make me a full SS 63,5 mm system. But it'll cost me approx 1000 euro's (about 650 pounds). It'll be completely custom though.

@Paul Wicks;

That looks the bollocks matey. I want it to sound raspy on acceleration but with a nice burble note ticking over. I have a standard manifold and downpipe, will it require welding onto the midpipe then?

Also is yours the full 240+VAT option?

forget the ashley system if your doing and rallies etc, i bought a twin box 2.25 for my road rally car and the first event i entered with it on the car it put out 110db so failed noise as the limit is 98, phoned ashley about it but they didn't want to know, i've still got it but its not on the car cos its useless.

Just out of interest why do you want a group A system over other systems, its a standard car I guess from your sig so there is no real performance advantages. I have an OMP group N and I have done 15k over a year and a half with it and it is still fine. However it is LOUD and group A are single box and a larger bore (or twin box I think) but if it is sound you are after my group N sounds ace and pops and bangs a lot now. I always thought a group A was only for performance engines as they were a larger bore, so you might even lose a bit of back pressure which could upset things. I personally think that if you have a decent amount of money to spend a magnex systen is always good (stainless), and if you are after a bit cheaper I can definately recommend the OMP group N system (twin box) as it is loud (if thats what you are after) and has lasted well on my car - daily driver.

eg. is the price quoted for the Grp N a stainless replica?

Those prices are all for stainless yes - as Paul said those were the last quoted prices but you'll have to call to check. May be same price still.
