Recommended Posts

Guest RickGTIBaker

Any cast iron way of telling the difference between the 2 BE3 1.6 and 1.9 gearboxes?

No, at least not that I'm aware of without taking the diff housing apart to check the number of teeth.

Why are you sure its a 1.9 gearbox? 39odd is way to long for a 1.9 box.

What rpm is it doing at 70mph approximately?

Graham.

What's the redline on an 8v again then, apparently 7250rpm in 1st on the 8v is 42mph so I thought maybe that was what he had?!

I'll have a play tomorrow with revs V's speed.

Problem is, the speedo is well and truly OTT. Road angel shows 72, speedo shows 80 lol.

Id be interested to know about this too. As apparently mine has a 1.6 box in it. Not sure what i get in fisrt, but its short, 70 in 5th is about 3.5-3.6k iirc.

1.6 is mean't to be approx 6.9k but ones I've driven have always shown nearer 6.6k when the limiter cut in.

1.9 is 6.5k afaik.

With a 6.6k limit on a 1.6 first gear will make 34mph.

70 in 5th is about 3.5-3.6k iirc.

Thats about right for the 1.6 GTi gearbox, a 1.9 is around 3.3k.

You think that's short - 70 in 5th on mine is at 5000rpm or so :)
