Ignition Switch Query

Recommended Posts

Guest fredster

HI Folks,

When I turn my key to the first ignition position the stereo gets power but so does the dash - all the gauges come on as does the battery light and the handbrake light. Is this normal? Its a stock 88 205 1.9. I'm worried that with the engine not running and the stereo on I'm flattening the battery or buggering the coil/dizzy/etc.

cheers

fred

DOES THE BATTERY GO FLAT IF YOU LEAVE IT FOR A FEW DAYS?

IF NOT ITS FINE

AS LONG AS THE RADIO TURNS OFF WHEN THE KEY IS OUT IT WILL NOT DRAIN THE BATTERY

Yep, Quite normal.

It's common to all PSA vehicles of this vintage although later ones just leave the ignition light on...

With the ingition on first click there is no power going to the coil etc, just the accessories (guages, radio etc)

Graham.
