Oil Temperature Wiring

Hello my friends

 

When I bought my 1.9 the seller told me that the oil temp sender was broken.

After 9 months of ownership I decided to buy another one..So I contacted the local Peugeot dealer and I order one for 20 Euros..

 

Now the problem is to find out the wire connector for this sender..

Today I took some photos of the wires I found..

the oil temp wire is a single connection wire that runs from the brown multiplug.

This post might help & it has picture of the brown plug.

 

A breakdown of the wire numbers & what they go to is;

• pin1=Brown=7A- Alternator.
  
  
• pin2=White=not readable.
  
  
• pin3=White=30A- oil temp sender unit.
  
  
• pin4=Grey=50A (I think).
  
  
• pin5=Blue=46- starter solenoid.
  
  
• pin6=Yellow=47- coolant temp switch.
  
  
• pin7=Red=47A- coolant temp guage sender.
  
  

Looking at the Haynes wiring diagram, pin 2 &4 are either the oil pressure switch or oil pressure sender, just in which order I don't know but from reading other posts in that topic it seems that pin 4 is the oil pressure light (switch) & pin 2 the oil pressure sender.

 

If you get these two crossed you won't have any oil pressure indication but its easy to swap them over if you do.

Today I will make a wire connection to the 7-pin fuse to fix it.

 

Does anyone have a picture of the Oil temp sender to see the way I must cunnect the wire to it?

oli temp sensor is fitted to the back of the sump. Has a tiny screw sticking out that should have a 7mm nut on it.

 

wire connects using a ring connection and is hooked over the bolt then held on with the 7mm nut.

yes, it is attached with a 7mm nut

I have only the cable without the hook and I am waiting the sensor I ordered to arrive.

To replace the oil temp sensor you have to empty your oil sump first???

Oil is only 3 weeks old!

yes you do need to drain the oil, it will come out of the hole the sensor goes into otherwise.

 

you could drain it, filter it and put it back in I suppose but its not a good idea. how expensive is oil in Athens? I'd replace it if I was you....

Ok you are right, I will keep the old oil for the kitchen and I will replace it.

Now I have Motorex 10W/40.

Any better suggestion for the oil type? (1.9)

I've never heard of motorex but any decent quality semi synthetic 10W/40 oil will do.

I heard that the oil temp sender will fit any XU series engine.(1.6,1.9,2.0 8v etc)

Is that true?

there are at least two different sensors on XU engines with different threads. I think it depends on the type of sump you have (alloy or steel).

you dont have to drain the oil! stick yer finger in the hole!

 

I forgot to replace the sump plug washer on my mum's 405 and it seeped a little so I loosened it then unscrewed it by hand, keeping pressure on it towards the sump so that I could feel when it had reached the end of the threads, then quickly whip it out and stick yer inger in the hole, swap the washer over then reverse the process.

 

I lost maybe 50ml of oil.

My engine is a XU10J2 2.0 8v with the intake ang gearbox from the 1.9 8v engine.

Radiator,Spark Plugs,Spark Leads,Oil Filter,Fuel Filter,ECU and AFM ,water sensor and oil pressure sensor are excactly the same as the 1.9 engine.

I bought an oil temp sensor from a 205 1.9 GTi (16mm diameter) to replace it. I read that the late engine has an 14mm oil temp sensor so I wonder in which category my sump belongs

 

Does anyone have any pics of the 14mm type sensor??

The 14mm sensor looks exactly the same except the thread for fitting into the sump is smaller.

 

I have an old one somewhere, if I can find it I'll post a picture later.

Not yet as I was busy fitting a new starter motor & ignition barrel yesterday including rewiring the professionally fitted immobilliser. .
