Rr Preparation

Thought it would be a good idea to talk about RR preparation.

Here's the details I sent my mapper in advance, he replied saying it was useful. I obviously read puma's advice on his website to help with this.

  • Background/Objectives:
  • Dedicated Track car, maximising torque important
  • Low budget race engine, essentially standard bottom end, so max revs are limited
  • Still running in, done circa 100 miles since rebuild. Currently using Mineral running in oil.

    Essential Engine Specification:
  • PumaRacing designed & built 1.9 8V Engine ( XU9JA / D6B):
  • 11.25:1 Compression ratio
  • 43mm Big Valve head
  • Race Valve Spring System (to allow circa max 8200 rpm to be used)
  • CatCams Vernier Pulley
  • CatCams 4900340 Camshaft, detailed spec:
    4900340----------INTAKE----------EXHAUST
    clearance [cl]----------0.15mm---------- 0.15mm
    duration [0.1mm+cl]---------- 287°---------- 287°
    duration [1.0mm+cl]---------- 255°---------- 255°
    valve lift [cl=0]---------- 12.25mm---------- 12.25mm
    cam lift---------- ----------- -----------
    peak angle---------- 108°---------- 108°
    timing [1.0mm+cl]---------- 20/55°---------- 56/19°
    lift at TDC [cl=0]---------- 3.80mm---------- 3.70mm
  • Standard 1.9 rods balanced with ARP bolts fitted.
  • New 1.6 Gti Karl Schmidt cast pistons.
  • KMS ECU & 45mm TBs
  • Vauxhall Cream Injectors (bosch 280150744, spec: 65 each (260 total) cc/min *4/5 = 208 @3bar, 80% duty)
  • Ported Inlet Manifold
  • Aluminium Flywheel
  • External timing sensor/bracket
  • Longmans/Maniflow 4 Branch Exhaust Manifold
  • GroupA 2.5" exhaust
  • Adjustable fuel pressure regulator

    Essential Transmission Specification:
  • Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6 gearbox, ratios:
    1st (3.31) 2nd (1.88) 3rd (1.36) 4th (1.07) 5th (0.87) FD (4.06)
  • KAAZ Plate Differential

    Engine Builder Input:
  • Cam timing can be changed 1-2 degrees
  • Shorter trumpets (less than 90mm) expected to suit this engine more
  • Max rev limit to be set ~8,000

    Other:
  • Radiator fan on constant currently, can be switched off by removing fuse in engine bay
  • Alternative Injectors, if needed. Peugeot GTI6 (weber iw204, 74 each (296 total) cc/min * 4/5 = 237 @3bar, 80% duty)
  • Current map set using base map (2 litre Audi 20valve) and KMS closed loop lambda control for a few hours on track
  • Car currently running far from optimum and splutters under full / heavy load
  • Full throttle achieved with pedal just above floor
  • Fuel pressure currently temporarily set very high (over 4bar) , expect this needs to be reduced during mapping to a sensible level
  • Optimax Fuel (tank is half the size of normal, so is 25 litres not 50, fuel gauge compensates for this, so is accurate)> EDIT, I ended up getting it mapped on 97 ron
  • Front Wheel alignment: Front tracking probably 20 mins toe out; roughly 1 deg of negative camber)
