What an absolute muppet!!! Today I felt really lucky, so i thought id have ago at repairing my rusty arches... how wrong could i be?

all these holes was disguised in body filler! And I had the lamest arse attempt at repairing them myself.

I have been doing it all day, and they look really bad. The only option is for new arches i think, but the cost is quite high, considering the arches cost 18.00 per side. Been quoted by 2 garages 300 + VAT for the complete job.

Does anyone have any tips... or advice, or does anybody fancy welding some new arches in for me?

Is this just a quick tidy up of a hack- car?

bend some metal into a former for the inner arch radius.

spray top edge of former with wd40 and attatch to good sections of arch lip with self-tappers.

push a skim of fibreglass "bridging filler" all the way around and wait to cure

undo self tappers and remove former

shape outside face with surform

finish body repair with body filler!

should last a few months before bubbling

And yes, I used to spend weekends at a "rather" dodgy bodyshop in my youth. (vivas, escorts and fuegos mostly- wish I'd kept a couple of those £50 mexicos!!!!!)

Did this to my sisters old Metro a few years back, i think we either had repair panels or cut some decent panels from a breaker, and tacked them in place, smoothed and painted over. Was never perfect and took a good day or so, but looked alright once finished and although a pain wasn't that hard.
