Tu5 Block With A Tu3 Flywheel & Clutch

TU5 block with a TU3 Flywheel & clutch.

Has anyone tried this?

Worries are:

  1. Smaller diameter cutch. How much torque can it handle without a heavy sport clutch
  2. Idle problems maybe?

Why not just lighten a TU2J2 clutch?

Sam, I've got a 16v block and I was wondering If I should use the TU3 Flywheel beacuse it looks much lighter. But of course the diameter of the cluch plate is smaller.

Is the TU2J2 clutch basically the same as an 205XS/Rallye one?

No but it runs a 200mm clutch and is the lightest of the lot as standard. Lightening it further would be good.

Sorry to bodge in, but the TU2J2 clutch is only 180mm. The TU5J2 is 200mm.

Ahh yes. I forgot to mention that, you'll need to get it repinned but thats not too bad of a job for a machine shop.

Am I missing something Sam??

Why would I want to use a 180mm TU2J2 clutch with a repinned TU5 flywheel when I could just use the lighter TU3 flywheel instead with the standard 180mm TU3 clutch?

are the TU3 and TU2J2 clutches so different?

You wouldn't use a TU2J2 180mm clutch. You would repin the TU2J2 fly for a 200mm clutch, or you could lighten a TU5 one its just the TU2 one is lighter to start with. I wouldn't use a 180mm clutch if you could avoid it.
