well guys my poor pug is not starting

long story short.

car was running fine on friday night, just fitted a new dizzy to her and she was running true and smooth.

managed 3 miles before she spluttered to a halt

pulled over to the side of the road and she wouldnt start again

have fuel have spark, although did suspect the coil due to the spark being a bit weak looking.

so replaced the coil for good measure.

all the dizzy, rotor arm, cap, leads, plugs and coil are under 5 miles old :)

anyone suggest a next step as its getting a bit pricey after a new dizzy and coil so far this week :)

ideally i want to get the bloody thing started for tuesday save me cadging a lift to work :)

no the car ran rough as a badgers backside and was badly overfuelling before i changed the dizzy

new dizzy went on and she ran sweet as a nut.

got 3 miles in her (she sat idling for 1/2 hour before we went out) Then I took her for a quick run up the dual carriageway came off the roundabout opened her up a tad to about 4k then she cut out few farts and pops whilst she coasted to the side of the road then nothing.

now heres the killer. my old man suggested it might have slipped a tooth on the belt. although i dont see that this would stop her starting.

looseened the dizzy off and turned it right round clockwise and the car sounds more inclined to start(actually coughs and farts) but alas still wont go

any more thoughts guys? as i dont want to start throwing boat loads of cash at her

bump for a poorly pug

try putting the old rotor arm back in- once had one where the locating lug broke off allowing dizzy to turn inside it! £300 later at a "specialist" -new timing belt, plugs leads s/h dizzy etc it was no better-took ages to find it as we all assumed it couldn't be at fault just 'cos it was new! 3yrs ago and the last time I took it to a garage 'cept for mot!

Ah, so the injectors could be at fault.

It could be the tachymetric relay, this is the combined fuel pump and injector relay, and is located inside the dashboard on later cars, just above the cubby hole below right of the steering wheel. I think its in the engine bay on early cars.

Usually both the injectors and fuel pump stop working, but you never know. it usually fails due to dirt on the contacts inside or from the soldered joints coming loose.

well funny you should say that fuel pump doesnt buzz when you turn the key (although did work when i put 12v thru it  so think thats a possibility

Been trying to get my head round this awhile..

the gti doesn't use a crank sensor but a charge generated by rotating the dizzy (starts with cranking) sent to ecu to switch tachymetric relay + injectors ?

??? anyone?

Therefore possibly suspect problem with new dizzy, even if new, or conectionns from dizzy & through amp module? checking that all multiplug wires are pushed fully home individually-single wires can become displaced when fitting multiplugs together
