Emerald Ecu And 8v Smooth Running

Recommended Posts

Craigb

Just a funny one this that i thought i would share with you ..

When i was checking the ignition timing on mine the other week , i was poking around in the engine bay whilst it was idling .

I pulled one of the leads off just to see what would happen .( as you do)

i was quite amazed that the engine revs didn't budge , i am running the idle correction using ignition advance , but still an 8v ( or should that be 6V) idleing at 900 rpm as smooth as anything ..

freaky

You can pull a lead off on a stock car and it makes surprisingly little difference.

Well, because of a throttle body fault, our 306 has spent the past week or so happily idling @ 300rpm, I swear it's smoother there than it is at any other point in the rev range. Makes you wonder why they have to idle at 900.

Makes you wonder why you need four cylinders :)

Apparently 3 cylinder engines are significantly more efficient 4's.

I think they need to idle at 900 for oil pressure reasons?

Only on smaller engines I suspect.

I had a couple of Diahatsu Charade's in the late 80's (including a GTTi - turbo) They were 3 cylinder ?990cc

Cracking little cars!
