Guest Red205 Posted February 19, 2006 Finally getting a chance to built a rwd 205, but i'm not 100% sure how i want to do it yet. My idea so far is to, keep the 205 front suspension setup(xs), replace the front struts with mk2 escort ones. In doing that i would have to use an engine with the pickuip at the front(because of subframe). havent decided on rear end yet. engine choices so far are cosworth 24v, bmw m10 1.8 0r some other jap engines. Would like some pics of rwd 205/309's so i can get idea wat others have done. thanks.
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted February 20, 2006 Id'do it like this: - standard 205GTi front suspension including struts etc - engine longitudinally with gearbox mateched to engine - ford sierra rear suspension (shortened) Another idea might me to set up you own rear suspension based on what Dangel has done in the past. Powers 13 Posted February 20, 2006 In that picture, are they 405 4by4 trailing arms? Or did he design his own? Cheers Hilgie.
Ryan 99 Posted February 20, 2006 I think they are standard arms, but with modified hubs to accept a pair of driveshafts.
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted February 20, 2006 I think they are standard arms, but with modified hubs to accept a pair of driveshafts. That's right....and for what I was able to find out they use 106 front bearings pressed into a modified hub. Driveshafts are custom ones.

Anyone knows how a rwd car wid a torsion bar would 'steer'? i have a sierra IRs already but they dont have good ratios, so i thinking about using the datsun/510/silvia irs diffs. Higgy 0 Posted April 12, 2006 A mate made a RWD 205 for grasstrack racing SEE HERE Front engine mounts look custom made. I am pretty sure the rear suspension had coilovers, so that rules out Sierra suspension. I think some of the Mark 2 Escort RS' had coilovers instead of leaf springs? I dont think he made his own rear suspension, just 'adapted' the shell to fit another cars' suspension. Higgy.
stu_woac 1 Posted April 12, 2006 get on to z-cars.com and get a hybussia turbo lump in the 205 and get it tuned abit to LOL
M3Evo 0 Posted April 12, 2006 If you used the sierra bits, you'd gain semi-trailing arms too which is a bonus I guess Might be difficult to maintain alignment of the very substantial subframe they have if you were to shorten it. It's a giant bent tube which runs the width of the car to carry the diff and suspension arms iirc.
Emmy Seize 8 Posted April 12, 2006 COOOL ! Did I get this right : Rear suspension on the Dangel is done with more or less standard Peugeot items ? If so, what should keep me from building an AWD 205 with running gear from a 405 or a BX ? Has anyone ever tried ?
stu_woac 1 Posted April 12, 2006 yes this has been done a few times with the 405 running gear
cybernck 400 1 Cars Posted April 12, 2006 emmy> you want 405 Mi16x4 drivetrain, not the SRIx4 or BX 4x4. stu> yes but they've used 405's rear suspension as well, unlike Dangel.
stu_woac 1 Posted April 12, 2006 that what I said wasnt it lol the rear gets shorten alittle, same with the prop
efy2bjg 0 Posted April 13, 2006 The dangel conversion looks very tidy and alot more simple if you can retain the 205/309 rear suspension. To clear a few things up is the labelling below correct? not necessarily as dangel did it but possible using the stated parts? Also is there anything else there which has been changed? Hilgie? cheers Ben
cybernck 400 1 Cars Posted April 14, 2006 that's about it, except the drivetrain may be of a SRIx4 and the prop shaft doesn't appear to have a center bearing at all.
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted April 15, 2006 I placed comments and put orange circles around the modified areas.
