I want to remove the variable dimmer switch for the dashboard lights. I have bridged the connection without the switch and they light up full as I wish them to but is there anything in the switch which is there to control the current? Basically, is it safe to do this as a permenant fixture or could it overheat?

It'll be fine. All the dimmer does is limit the voltage that reaches the lights, thus making them dimmer. When turned to full it lets the full battery voltage through.

Just get the plate from a base model 205 which doesn't have the dimmer & plug that in.
