306 Starter (petrol Or Diesel)

I have seen threads which say a 306 starter will fit. Which one should I fit ? petrol or diesel.

They should both fit, but the diesel one will be more powerful (easier starting, at the expense of higher current draw from the battery - your choice).

Either will fit as long as the starter is from an XU engined 306.

Either will fit fine as said, but you will probably need to change the connector on the end of the solenoid wire from a spade to a ring terminal (most later Peugeot and Citroen starters have this type of fitting)
